Hiked with a group
17 brave hikers gathered at Mount Diablo on Saturday the 10th to take on the Advanced OTP 5 Peaks Challenge and 6 Pack of Peak Challenge.
The weather was crisp and clear, and the trails were in excellent condition following recent rains. We followed the OTP route to Twin Peaks, Eagle Peak, Mount Diablo, North Peak, and finally Mount Olympus.
As the hike progressed, the group naturally spread out into three smaller packs. Much of the elevation gain occurred within the first seven miles, and by the time we reached the summit of Mount Diablo, we had already climbed approximately 4,000 feet.
We reached the summit around 11:30 a.m. and took a well-earned break complete with ice cream sandwiches. The hike over to North Peak and Mount Olympus was enjoyable, knowing that after Olympus, the majority of the hike would be downhill.
Many hikers tracked mileage and elevation throughout the day, and on average we completed approximately 15.9 miles with about 5,100 feet of elevation gain. The first group finished in roughly 7 hours and 30 minutes.
If you have any questions about my hikes, feel free to message me—I’m always happy to share more. If you’re interested in following along, you can find me on Facebook Jason’s Hiking Adventures, Ocean to Peaks Adventures, Bay Area Hikers, Instagram (@jasonshikingadventures), Social Hiker, and AllTrails. Please note that I am not a professional guide. I plan hikes to share the outdoor experience, and each hiker is responsible for their own safety and abilities.
It’s your world to explore and enjoy. A link to the route we took is posted below. Thanks for reading!
