The Road Less Traveled and an Amazing Detour

Maiden Peak and Maiden Lake, 10.43 miles & 3,150 feet in elevation gain
Great hike today. My 2nd Peak of the Central Oregon Six Pack of Peaks. I recorded 4.65 miles to the summit with an elevation gain of 2,879 feet. Miles 1 through 4 gained 526, 483, 670, and 532 feet in elevation respectively. The final .65 miles to the summit gained another 686 feet in elevation making it the steepest portion of the climb.
After summitting I headed down and took a detour to Maiden Lake, adding another 1.2 miles and 271 feet in elevation to my totals. Well worth the detour for sure.
There weren’t too many hikers on trail, hence the title “The Road Less Traveled” and the reason I chose this particular hike. Shout out to the Trail Maintenance Crew’s. It was obvious that lots of maintenance has been done. I believe I read from a Nov 2025 post that there were about a dozen blowdowns on the trail. All of those had been freshly cut in recent weeks.
I highly recommend this hike to anyone who is looking for a moderate to hard challenge and at the same time, just wants to get away and have some solitude for a few hours.
