On week days it's hard to find a hiking buddy so I decided to go at it alone. I hiked the Cucamonga Peak the month prior and felt confident about making it to Ontario Peak on my own. I saw a couple of hikers on the way up but once I passed Ice Saddle, I only saw one guy coming down who had just been at the peak and wished me luck. The rest of the trek was all by myself, and it was a day with a lot of clouds covering the scorching heat of the sun. Once I made it to the peak, I have to say I felt pretty darn good about myself! I took a few pics, signed the log, enjoyed the view and rested a bit until I heard the thunder coming from the dark clouds over Mt Baldy. I packed my stuff and hustled it off the peak. On my way down I got a few sprinkles here and there which made it much cooler so by the time I made it to the parking lot a little rain shower began. Who said it never rains in Southern California? So glad it did because it was the ending to an awesome day.

HeyJude4Real,
your name caught my eye, AND the solo hike title of your post. I’m HeyJude. I will probably be doing some hikes solo, too, since my hiking buds are all going out of town. I’m from San Diego, so it ends up being an all day thing for me.I’ve done Cucamonga Peak already, so I’ll probably do Ontario solo, too, because as you said, I know the way now. Sounds like you had a good hike. As a fellow Judy, perhaps some time we can pair up on a hike!
Happy trails,
Judy
Hi Judy! It’s good to hear from another Judy, and a HeyJude at that, lol. Yea, if you did Cucamonga you’ll love the Ontario side. There are a couple of spots as you get near the top where the bushes are overgrown and may scratch you, so in hindsight maybe long pants if that kinda thing bothers you. But honestly, it wasn’t that bad. How often do you get out to hike? I love the idea of meeting up with another Judy on a hike. Let me know.
Happy Trails to you too.
Judy
Congrats on a successful solo peak hike, @heyjude4real!
