Hi Gina!
Welcome packets for all of the 2024 challenges (including SoCal) will begin shipping the last week of December. Once the challenge officially starts on January 1, 2024, we begin shipping welcome packets as people register, typically within 5-7 business days or less.
Right now, I'm working hard on finisher certificates for our 2023 challengers. 😉

AdministratorSeptember 13, 2023 at 1:35 pm in reply to: Finished NorCal peaks but it won’t showOkay, a quick check and I found you and Nancy had both logged six of the mountains for NorCal, but didn't get the finisher badge. That's been fixed (you both have them). I see a couple other challengers that have five peaks logged and are close to finishing, but I haven't found any other “missing” finishers.
I still need to go into the backend and sort out why you and Nancy didn't get the finisher badge, but that will have to wait until tomorrow.
Thanks again for letting me know, and congratulations!

AdministratorAugust 31, 2023 at 11:12 am in reply to: Forsee Creek Trailhead to San Berdoo/Anderson, etcHi Jacqueline! I did this a few years back (six, to be precise). We did an open loop and backpacked overnight on the divide. I've got photos and details here:
https://socalhiker.net/backpacking-san-bernardino-san-gorgonio-peaks/
A few notes, this was before the most recent fire, so it will likely look quite different. Also, the route up to the main San Bernardino Trail is steep and at times faint (that was back in 2017). Not a lot of people go this way.
I would check with the forest service if you can get through and see if they have any update on trail conditions, especially whether downed trees have been cleared and signage repaired, where necessary.

Backpacking San Bernardino and San Gorgonio Peaks - SoCal Hiker
One of the best way to enjoy the mountains of Southern California is on an overnight backpacking trip. I have hiked both San Bernardino Peak and San Gorgonio Peak both as day hikes and as overnight trips, but since many … Continue reading

You can enter on Soda Lake Road from either the South or North entrance. There is a service road from the south west, but that gate remains locked.
The Carrizo Plain National Monument has a map showing the area and access.

AdministratorNovember 1, 2023 at 12:07 pm in reply to: Question about SO CAL Six Pack, SAWMILL MOUNTAINHi Sherri! The 3-2-1 challenge is not organized or affiliated with the Six-Pack of Peaks Challenge. It's run by the Mountain Communities Chamber of Commerce, and you can read more about it here: https://www.mymountainchamber.com/321-challenge
ONE of the peaks in the 3-2-1 challenge is Sawmill, which is also a peak in the SoCal Six-Pack of Peaks Challenge. So a lot of Six-Pack challengers will do Sawmill, and ALSO do Pinos (which is on the way to Sawmill) and Grouse (which adds mileage, but isn't too bad). That way they not only get one badge in the Six-Pack of Peaks Challenge (for Sawmill) but can also complete the 3-2-1 challenge.
Does that make sense?
